The speed at which you use your carbide burr depends on the material and the contour being produced. It is safe to say you do not need to exceed 35,000 RPM. The table below shows approximate recommended speeds by burr diameter.

As with all drill bits and burrs, let the burr do the work and apply only light pressure. Excessive pressure will cause the cutting edges of the flutes to chip away or become smooth too quickly, reducing the life of your burr.

Avoid keeping the burr still for too long, as this will prevent it from digging and jabbing into your material, which can cause unsightly marks and roughness.
